Designing Tiny: Transitional Spaces

April 18, 2012

by Emily

I get the biggest thrill out of seeing apartments in New York. Inevitably, design challenges are plentiful regardless of the size of the space. From awkward studio room orientations to lighting high ceiling loft style spaces effectively, there are endless things to consider. The most common challenge I see is creating a cozy living environment in small spaces. Even in a studio, it is nice to feel like you have a place to sit down and put on your shoes. So here is a concept board to meet those needs. I’ve incorporated color, just enough coziness, and selected properly scaled pieces to maximize available space. Since the focus is on “charmingly small spaces”, we’ll call this purpose and look “transitional” since this isn’t exactly a living room, but serves as much more than a sitting space.
