SundaySundaySunday! Featuring Man Dip & Beer Bread

Since – apparently – brie, truffles, and champagne cocktails don’t exactly “go” with most guys we know, we thought we would branch out just in time for Sunday’s all-important Super Bowl game and offer up two of our favorite go-to-guy-friendly party treats. And by “go-to” we mean that we can’t believe neither of these recipes have made it on the blog yet, we seriously make them more frequently than almost anything else!

Beer Bread

3 cups flour – white or whole wheat, sifted
1 cup sugar
12 oz beer (you can use anything from bud light to a more flavorful pumpkin ale)
1 stick of butter, melted

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, sugar, and beer until incorporated. Pour into greased loaf pan (Pam is fine), and bake for 45 minutes.  Remove from oven, cut a thin slice through the top of the loaf, and pour butter over bread.  Return to oven for 15-20 minutes until bread is golden brown.

Man Dip (because Men love this stuff, adapted from Mrs. Washmon in Tyler, TX)

1 can of Fritos bean dip (alternately, 1 16 oz can of refried beans plus an extra 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning)
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
8 ounces sour cream
8 ounces cheddar cheese, grated and divided
1 package taco seasoning (4 tablespoons)
2 tablespoons juice from canned jalapenos
1/4 cup chopped pickled jalapenos (optional)

Preheat oven to 350˙. Mix beans, cream cheese, sour cream and 4 ounces of cheddar cheese in large bowl. Mix in taco seasoning and jalapeno juice. Transfer to a small baking dish and top with remaining cheddar and pickled jalapenos. Bake for 25 minutes. Serve with Fritos Scoops.

To jazz it up a little bit, I’ve been told you can also top the dip with olives, green onions, tomatoes or lettuce – making it more like a seven layer dip. However I’ve never done this as adding any vegetables besides jalapenos to man dip would be considered sacrilege in my house.
