Nautical Shower – Sarah and Tad are Tying the Knot!

My bff Sarah is getting married (yay!) and this last weekend several of the bridesmaids hosted a shower for her and Tad at my maison. We chose a nautical theme (secretly based on the bride’s pre-purchased skirt), so we decorated with lots of navy and white, stripes, and yellow accents. The tables were covered in white butcher paper for a clean and casual look, and the centerpieces included Mason Jars with floating votives and twine bows, and galvanized mini buckets for silverware wrapped in yellow napkins tied with twine.

While most of the party was outside, we did set up an appetizer buffet and wine station inside. The couple’s wedding book and the shower invitation were placed next to the hydrangea bouquet in my entryway. All of my blue and white vases came in handy! For appetizers we kept things simple and oven-free: “Cape Cod” crab dip from Eatzi‘s with baguette, and a cheese plate with Extra-Sharp Cheddar, Brie, Boursin, and cream cheese with Raspberry-Chipotle spread on top.

We set up a the main buffet table on the porch (under the fan!) with lemonade, cute striped paper straws, personalized cocktail napkins, more appetizers and wine, and a large hurricane filled with sand and shells. Elizabeth Volk made a darling nautical bunting banner for the couple. We tied navy and white striped ribbon around tall votive holders, and also made menu cards.

We ate right as the sun was finally setting, and the votives on the tables made for a magical backyard setting. The menu included: Grilled Corn with Chipotle Rub Butter; Caprese Pasta Salad with Sun-Dried Tomato Dressing; Asian Slaw; “Low Country” Shrimp Boil Skewers (shrimp, sausage, and potatoes covered in a Shrimp Boil spice glaze); “Caribbean Jerk” Chicken Skewers (chicken, pineapple, red peppers, and onions – marinated in lime juice, olive oil, and Texas Hot Salt, and glazed with a Pineapple-Habanero sauce); and Peach Cobbler and Nutella Brownies for dessert.

We think everyone had a wonderful time and the shower was a success. We’re so happy for Sarah and Tad and can’t wait to celebrate more at the wedding!

Ah! I love all things nautical. Exactly how I would plan a party! I have been lusting after that Anne Cramer skirt for awhile now, but just picked up a similar one from Bloomie’s this weekend. That galvanized tray is also residing in my Pottery Barn shopping cart. love love love.
