White Bathroom Inspiration

Traditional Home

Husband and I live in a 1950s maison, which we love most of the time. I love its character and quirkiness, the exposed brick wall in our den, the big trees, and (most of all) the fact that it doesn’t look like every other house in our neighborhood. Of course having an old house also means that something goes wrong about every 57 days. On these days, husband storms around the house muttering  how much he hates our maison, our neighbors, and our alley, and then asks if we can please move to a ranch in the hill country (because I’m sure nothing would ever go wrong there). I just dream about a new old house, one that is darling and charming, and has been completely renovated.

This time the drama started with a leak in the master bathroom. We already had a leak in our guest bathroom, which we conveniently discovered the day I moved in right before our wedding (yes, that made for a really fun moving in day). So we’ve already gutted and redone one bathroom in the past year, and let’s just say we weren’t exactly planning on remodeling this bathroom anytime soon, or ever for that matter. We’ve decided to just re-tile the shower area and re-glaze the peach ceramic tile on the floor and walls in bright white. The re-glazing dictated what look our new bathroom would have, because I refuse to believe that 1950s square ceramic tiles look good in any color but white. I started looking for some white bathroom inspiration and fell in love with the idea of using white carrera marble in the shower.

I think we’ll probably stick with white walls, but I do love this color against white.

These bathrooms are more glamorous than ours will be, but I just love them. I have a weakness for mirrored vanities and chandeliers in unexpected places.

I need to know more about re-glazing bathroom tiles!! We have a shower leak and instead of ripping out all the coordinating tiles in the shower and tub (which has leaves and vines painted on it) I’d love to turn them all white- poof! We also have a shower that is peach and mint… what were they thinking in the 50’s??

Tell me about it! The tiles in our guest bath had turquoise flowers painted on them. gross. We haven’t chosen a company yet, but if you google “tile reglazing” and your city you should get a few options. It’s so much cheaper than re-tiling, like in the hundreds instead of thousands 🙂 I’ll be sure to report back on how we like it!
